June Killing Critical Voice

Learning How To Control or Kill Your Critical Voice

KILLING CRITICAL VOICE

Critical voice is a natural part of who we all are. It was trained into us by parents and teachers at a very early age. Its job is to stop us, keep us "safe" in life. Critical voice is the voice that tells you to not put your hand on a hot stove, to not step into a street without looking, to not jump out of planes without training.

But in writing, there is nothing to fear, nothing that can hurt you. But your critical voice (because of all the myths and bad information around the art of fiction writing) manages to stop you over and over again.

Or even worse, makes your fiction dull and "safe" because it won't bother anyone then. And, of course, it also won't sell.

The insecurity of early-stage writers is a breeding ground for the critical voice.

Long term professional fiction writers have banished the critical voice early in their careers. But this critical voice is what is responsible for stopping almost all early-stage writers.

Critical voice kills dreams, your dreams.

Critical voice makes you afraid when there is nothing to be afraid of.

This workshop will work on first understanding what causes critical voice, how to recognize it, tell it apart from your creative voice, and then the workshop will give you fighting techniques to beat back and defeat critical voice.

If you don't think your writing is good enough, if you get stuck halfway through stories or novels, if you are afraid to get your work out, if writing is not fun anymore, this is the class for you.

Critical voice can be beat. It can be cleared out. But you have to know how to fight the battle and how it sneaks up on you.

I am not sure why we haven't done this workshop before now.
